Sydney Say’s: How do furniture donations make a difference?
Donating your unwanted furniture items to Newground ReUse does the following:
Stops the item going direct to landfill
By giving the item to ReUse, the project is able to divert the item from landfill, if for some reason the item isn’t sold in store, then it goes into the ReUse recycling process which ensures items do not go to landfill.
Access to furniture for all
The Newground ReUse store sells furniture donated at low cost to allow members of the community access to quality items at affordable prices. There is an increasing need for many of the community to stretch their income further and further. ReUse aims to help by providing household items at affordable costs.
Training and work experience opportunities
The income generated for furniture sales, ReUse is able to run a work experience training programme. The programme allows people who have been unemployed for sometime gain valuable experience to put on their CV. The work experience programme runs alongside another Newground scheme, WorkSmart, which runs job clubs, provides interview training and actively seeks to get participants sustainable employment. The partnership of the two schemes is extremely successful with a high rate of participants gaining employment as a direct result of the programme.
Helps local charity
At the end of each financial year surplus income generated by Newground CIC goes into the Newground Together charity, this includes profits made by the ReUse project. Newground Together allocates charitable grants to suitable local agencies that meet the charities objectives:
