Senator’s Sustain programme works to reprocess or responsibly dispose of redundant furniture. Since its launch in 2009 the programme is estimated to have recycled 270,000 items, which equates to 7.5 million kg of waste being diverted from landfill and more than eight million kilos of carbon dioxide emissions being avoided. Senator also donates furniture to charities and not-for-profit organisations.
Here at Newground ReUse we operate a similar programme which involves the resale and recycling of unwanted furniture items, and since 2014 have ourselves managed to divert 1820 tonnes of waste from landfill. We also run a successful programme to help people find their way back into employment, with the opportunity for people to work with us on work placements and apprenticeships. After gaining training and experience with us, many of our placements move on to working full time within the waste sector, with two of our past employees now working full time at Senator itself.
Recycling is at the top of our agenda and is very important to all of our team members. We recognise the importance of working together with other organisations to help reduce waste.
Senator’s Sustain programme has recently celebrated its 10th birthday and Newground ReUse were invited to the party. ReUse Manager Sara Knagg is pictured below at the celebration with two of our past employees.
